Thomas Deckert

I’m an industrial product designer, installation artist, functional absurdist and regular hackathon attendee. I’m fascinated with the intersection of design, education, urban planning, and public policy. I’m especially excited about the potential for our future interactions with technology to become more meaningful, intuitive, and fulfilling. Last year I started a company, Next Thing Co., with two friends in Oakland. We’re developing a system of tools to make it easier for anyone to build the next generation of connected, customizable hardware products. These tools include: OTTO ( a hackable digital camera), C.H.I.P. (a $9 computer, LIVE on Kickstarter), and PocketC.H.I.P. (a $49 portable computer, also LIVE on Kickstarter).
